Sporting Legends Gather for a Fantastic Afternoon at Toft Cricket Club

The Wooden Spoon Manchester & Cheshire region enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of sport and entertainment as guests gathered at Toft Cricket Club for an event that brought together sporting legends, local supporters, and community friends — all in aid of helping disadvantaged children and young people.

The afternoon was kindly hosted by Toft Cricket Club and generously sponsored by Howdon, represented by Gemma Milburn, whose support helped make the day possible.

Guests were treated to a lively and entertaining talk from Geoff Milker, former Lancashire and England cricketer, who shared stories from his playing days. Geoff was joined by very special guest Jeff “Thommo” Thomson, the legendary Australian fast bowler who, alongside Dennis Lillee, terrorised England’s batting line-ups during the 1970s. Their insights and humour made for a truly memorable afternoon.

They were delighted to welcome both the Mayor of Cheshire East and the Mayor of Knutsford, who took time to attend and show their support for Wooden Spoon’s work in the region.

Adding star quality to the day, several well-known names from across the sporting world joined in the fun, including David Dunne (Blackburn), Andy Ritchie (Manchester United), Tony Cotton (Manchester City), Mick Harford (Luton Town), Bobby Goulding (Leeds and St Helens), and Paul Trainer (Salford Red Devils). Their presence added a real buzz to proceedings and reminded everyone of the power of sport to bring people together.

Guests also enjoyed live sport on the big screen, with the British & Irish Lions vs Argentina match providing the perfect backdrop to an afternoon of camaraderie and fundraising.

The event was a resounding success and a great example of how local supporters, clubs, and businesses continue to come together for a common purpose — helping Wooden Spoon Manchester & Cheshire make a difference to the lives of children and young people across the region.

A huge thank you to Toft Cricket Club, Howdon, our wonderful guests, and everyone who attended for their continued support.

This event has helped to fund projects like the Special Spirits project in the Manchester & Cheshire region.
