Sensory Rooms, Gardens and Spaces
Together, we can make the world a more inclusive place for all children
Approximately 1 in 57 children are neurodiverse in the UK which is 1.76% of the child population.
Neurodiverse conditions, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and sensory processing disorders can impact daily lives, making it challenging to navigate environments that others may find routine. For these children, the world can often feel overwhelming, especially when faced with sensory overloads that many of us might take for granted.
Sensory spaces provide a safe haven for neurodiverse children, offering a calming space where they can retreat and regulate their emotions. These specially designed areas are equipped with tools that engage the senses in a controlled way, helping children manage stress, reduce anxiety, and improve focus. For many, sensory spaces are not just a place of comfort but also a vital resource that aids in their development and learning.
How You Can Help
Wooden Spoon is committed to supporting neurodiverse children by funding sensory spaces in schools, community spaces, and rugby clubs across the UK and Ireland. But we can’t do it alone. Your generous donations help us create these life-changing spaces, giving neurodiverse children the support they need to thrive.
We are proud to say that in the past decade we have funded over 100 sensory spaces across the UK and Ireland, totalling over £4.6 million helping over 202,000 beneficiaries.
Donate towards Sensory Spaces or apply for a grant if you have a project in mind that will help neurodiverse children in the UK.
