Sensory Fun Opens at Special Spirits in Manchester

Manchester & Cheshire

The Sensory Fun project, a Sensory Space initiative featuring a specialist sensory room, has officially opened at Special Spirits in Manchester & Cheshire, thanks to a generous grant of £5,000. This project, designed to support children and young adults with special needs, is set to have a meaningful impact on the local community.

Special Spirits

Special Spirits provides extra-curricular programmes for children and young adults with special needs. Established in 2006 by a team of compassionate young volunteers, the organisation initially provided respite care through a winter camp for five children with special needs. Since then, Special Spirits has continued to grow, offering inclusive activities that promote fun, learning, and social development.

A New Sensory Room for Special Spirits

This new sensory room, which opened in March 2025, provides a calm and engaging environment designed to support sensory exploration, relaxation, and learning. The space is equipped with specialist sensory resources to help children develop their motor skills, communication abilities, and emotional wellbeing.

The sensory room was generously funded by a Wooden Spoon Charity grant. Wooden Spoon supports Special Spirits’ commitment to creating inclusive and nurturing spaces that foster wellbeing and personal development.
