Wooden Spoon Worcestershire charity quiz night raises £3,000
A charity quiz night has raised more than £3,000 to support disadvantaged children across Worcestershire.
The event was hosted by Wooden Spoon Worcestershire and took place at the Graeme Hick Pavilion at Worcestershire County Cricket Club.
All proceeds from the evening will go towards helping disadvantaged children throughout the county.
Vince Hopkins, chairman of Wooden Spoon Worcestershire, said the charity was “delighted” with the total raised.
“We are delighted to have raised such a significant sum to help disadvantaged children across the county,” he said.
“Jon Fraser – one of our committee members – organised, wrote and ran the evening.
“It was a fun and educational event rather than just a quiz, and the evening was enjoyed by all.
“I’d like to thank all local businesses that donated prizes which helped raise so much money.”
The sold-out event saw 24 teams take part in the competition, led by quizmaster Jon Fraser.
Each round of the quiz had a Worcestershire theme, with questions covering geographical landmarks, famous historical figures, and a music round featuring local artists.
Adding to the atmosphere, Edgar Harwood, the Droitwich Town Crier, welcomed guests and announced each round as well as the raffle winners.
Teams competed for a range of Worcestershire-themed prizes, many of which were donated by local businesses. These included food and drink hampers, event tickets and shopping vouchers.
In keeping with the local theme, each team entered under the name of a Worcestershire village, including Abberley, Broadway, Welland and Wyre Piddle.
