Wooden Spoon Yorkshire Christmas Sporting Lunch

Wooden Spoon Yorkshire held its 32nd annual Christmas Lunch on 12 December at the Queens Hotel in Leeds, bringing together supporters and guests for an enjoyable afternoon of celebration and fundraising.

The event featured an inspiring talk from Frances Stead, Headteacher at Whitecote Primary School, who spoke movingly about the positive impact Wooden Spoon’s support has had on children in her inner-city Leeds school. Her address provided a powerful reminder of the difference our work makes to young lives across the region.

Proceedings were kept firmly on track by the ever-reliable Roger Dakin, who resisted dwelling on his international hockey career despite encouragement from his loyal supporters. Rugby legend Jason Leonard joined as the event’s VIP guest, presenting the Mich Dearman Touch Rugby Trophy to the winning captain before sharing stories from his record-breaking international career. The afternoon was brought to a highly entertaining close by comedian Lea Roberts, whose performance was warmly received by all in attendance.

Most importantly, the lunch raised a substantial sum to help support disadvantaged children across Yorkshire. Our thanks go to Richard Tully and Toni Birch for all their hard work in organising such a successful event, and to everyone who attended and contributed.
