Wooden Spoon Gloucestershire Raises £4,000 at Annual Golf Day

The Wooden Spoon Gloucestershire Annual Golf Day took place on Thursday 9th October 2025 at Brickhampton Court in Gloucestershire. The event was hosted by Chairman Rob York, Head of Projects Gary Lewis, Committee Member Joseph James, and Board Secretary Samantha Pennington. The day brought together members of the community to raise vital funds for Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby. Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, just over £4,000 was raised through ticket sales, silent and live auctions, and the raffle—an outstanding result that will directly support life-changing projects for disadvantaged and disabled children across Gloucestershire.

Sixteen teams joined the competition, and the feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. The day was filled with camaraderie, friendly competition, and a shared commitment to making a difference. Special thanks were extended to all sponsors, players, and supporters for creating such a vibrant and memorable event. Congratulations were given to the winning teams and individual players: First Place went to AMS Auctions, captained by Rob York; Second Place to Pharos Offshore Group Ltd, captained by Phil Walker; and Third Place to Coach House Wealth Solutions, captained by Chris Durkin. The Longest Drive prize was awarded to Nick Rimes.

Following a fantastic morning on the course, guests enjoyed an exceptional lunch at Brickhampton Court. The delicious food and warm hospitality helped round off the day beautifully. The event also featured lively entertainment, charity auctions, and raffle prizes, all of which contributed to the energetic and uplifting atmosphere.

The generosity of attendees and sponsors made a significant impact, with funds raised going directly toward projects such as therapy sessions, accessible play facilities, and specialist equipment for children across Gloucestershire. One of the standout moments of the day was the charity auction, where the passion and commitment of everyone present created an inspiring sense of community spirit.

Thanks and acknowledgements were given to Chairman Rob York, Head of Projects Gary Lewis, Committee Member Joseph James, and Board Secretary Samantha Pennington. Appreciation was also extended to Head of Communities Matthew Bishop for playing so well, and of course to all attendees and donors who helped make the event a success. The Annual Golf Day is just one step in Wooden Spoon Gloucestershire’s ongoing journey to continue supporting children across the region, and supporters are invited to join upcoming events in 2026, including the Cricket Day, Golf Day, and Annual Dinner.

“Together, we proved that community spirit can make a lasting difference. Thank you for being part of it!”
