Wooden Spoon Wales Annual Golf Day Raises £2,700

Wooden Spoon Wales hosted its highly anticipated Annual Golf Day at the historic Whitchurch Golf Club, bringing together local businesses and Wooden Spoon supporters for a day of sport, camaraderie, and charity. Under clear skies and in near-perfect conditions, the event raised an impressive £2,700, which will support vital projects benefiting support children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland.

The century-old Whitchurch Golf Club, nestled just three and a half miles north of Cardiff and overlooked by the enchanting Castle Coch, provided a stunning backdrop for the event. Known for its challenging Par 3 and Par 4 holes, the course tested the mettle of the 13 participating teams. With a shotgun start, players embarked on a day filled with classic golfing challenges like nearest the pin and straightest drive, alongside light-hearted activities such as a rugby-themed challenge involving a rugby ball and a Rob Jones-themed target.

The event began with a warm welcome of breakfast rolls and coffee, setting the tone for a day of competitive yet friendly play. Following the tournament, participants enjoyed a sumptuous two-course meal as prizes were presented by Stuart Davies, a former Wales international rugby union player and Wooden Spoon ambassador. Davies’ presence added a touch of sporting prestige to the proceedings, highlighting Wooden Spoon’s ongoing commitment to leveraging the power of rugby to transform young lives.

In addition to course activities, funds were raised through sponsorship packages, team entry fees, raffles, and on-the-day activities. The event showcased the generosity of the community, with laughter, sportsmanship, and smiles all contributing to a memorable day.

Wooden Spoon Wales Chairperson remarked:
“We’re thrilled with the success of this year’s Golf Day. The support from everyone involved, from participants to sponsors, is truly inspiring. Every penny raised will help us make a meaningful difference in the lives of children who need it most.”

As an organisation dedicated to enriching young lives through the spirit of rugby, Wooden Spoon continues to champion community-driven events like this to fund initiatives across the UK and Ireland.
