7s Rugby: Men’s Marauders and Wooden Spoon Women’s Match Reports 2021
Read below the Wooden Spoon men’s and women’s 7s rugby match reports from 2021.
12 June: Apache Maidenhead 7s
Saturday 12 June saw the Wooden Spoon Marauders Men’s team attend their first warm up tournament at Maidenhead RFC. The side fielded a completely new lineup playing the newly adjusted laws of the game. This season, there are no scrums and mauls and the game is a lot faster as a result. Read more here.
19 June: Chiswick RFC 7s
26 June: Super 7s Series, Aldershot
The Super 7 Series kicked off with its first leg at the Aldershot Rugby Stadium on Armed Forces day. The Wooden Spoon Marauders fielded two squads of men and women in the elite competition which saw a number of International 7’s players feature in a very high calibre tournament. Read more here.
3 July: Super 7s Series, Newbury
The Wooden Spoon Marauders completed a very successful second leg of the Super 7s Series at Newbury RFC on Saturday 3rd July. The weekend saw the men’s side include possibly the best current player in the world in Semi Radradra, who played for Marauders in preparation for the Olympics before flying out to Fiji the next day. 17 July: Super 7s Series, Nottingham
On Saturday the 17th July the Wooden Spoon Marauders marched up to “Robin Hood” to play in the third leg of the Super 7s Series at Nottingham Rugby Club. The tournament was played in searing heat with pitch side temperatures exceeding 30 degrees. Read more here.
24 July: Super 7s Series, Bury St Edmunds
28-29 August: Bournemouth 7s
The Wooden Spoon Marauders men’s and women’s teams arrived at the Bournemouth 7s tournament this year determined to do well. This was the first two-day tournament that the teams had faced this season and with it brought the challenges of two days of demanding rugby union sevens. Read more here.
