Bedfordshire provides Ridgeway School with a new sensory garden
BedfordshireCHILDREN at the Ridgeway School in Kempston now have a safe environment in which to play funded by a donation from Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire.
The school provide care and education to children and young people aged between 3 and 19 years, with physical disabilities, medical conditions and associated learning and communication difficulties.
It’s an inclusive school with a strong ethos for developing children and young people into individuals in a positive and challenging environment. Children are encouraged to aim towards their highest possible level of independence.
Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire raised £15,000 to fund the design and build of the new sensory garden that will be used by children with the most complex care needs, enabling them to have a safe environment in which to play independently.
Helen Roy, Deputy Headteacher of Ridgeway School said: “The children will love the new sensory garden, they are vulnerable in the main playground, so it is nice for them to have their own area to play safely and independently.”
The money raised which enabled the school to build the sensory garden includes donations from George Davies & James Wootton, both marathon runners and Pilgrims School who nominated Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire as their Charity of the Year.
Oliver Richbell, Chairman of Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire, said: “We are thrilled to be able to support organisations in Bedfordshire, such as The Ridgeway School, to enable children and young people with disabilities and facing disadvantage to have the opportunity to develop and grow in such an amazing environment. We could not do this without the continuing support of our fundraisers and their generosity is what makes all this possible”.
