Wooden Spoon Wales Golf Day 2026

Wooden Spoon Wales hosted their annual golf day on Thursday 9th July 2026.

On one of the hottest days of the year, a full house of 18 teams assembled to tee off for a shotgun start at the picturesque setting of Whitchurch Golf club in Cardiff.

Players battled the heat to negotiate the course which is noted for its testing par 3 and par 4 holes, engaging in various course activities such as the yellow ball challenge and the popular straightest drive, as well as nearest the pin – on which, Brendan de Lange from team Hugh James achieved a hole in one!

This year’s challenge tent featured a giant dartboard that players had to chip onto, resulting in lots of smiles and laughter with the player achieving the highest score walking away with the prize!

With temperatures soaring, Committee members made sure players were kept well hydrated with drinks available at the challenge tent and frequent buggy runs to supply additional water and snacks undertaken throughout the day!

A great day of golf was had by all, followed by a 2-course BBQ style meal and prize giving ceremony, which were kindly presented by former Wales Fullback, Paul Thorburn who himself was playing in a team.
