Yorkshire Welcomes Back a Classic: Wooden Spoon Golf Day Shines After Seven Years
Sunshine, Sportsmanship and Support: Wooden Spoon Golf Day Returns to Yorkshire
After a seven‑year pause, Yorkshire welcomed back the Wooden Spoon Charity’s golf fundraiser with a day that will be remembered for its sunshine, camaraderie, and generosity.
The Hallamshire Golf Club in Sheffield provided the perfect stage. Its rolling fairways and panoramic views set the scene as 30 teams teed off under cloudless skies. The air was filled with laughter, friendly rivalry, and the unmistakable buzz of an event long overdue in the region.
From the first drive to the final putt, the competition was spirited and many a story shared whilst enjoying the delights of a great course in the July sunshine. The post‑golf meal brought everyone together, turning the clubhouse into a hub of celebration and connection.
The evening’s raffle and auction added a spark of excitement, with bidders vying for prizes in good‑natured competition. The generosity of participants shone through, raising approximately £8,000—a sum that will directly support Wooden Spoon’s mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, with money raised staying in the Yorkshire region.
A huge thanks to our organisers Bill Reichwald & Rob Liversidge who worked tirelessly to bring this event back to the region, to our volunteers and committee members who gave their time to help at the event, our host club the Hallamshire and finally to all the golfers who supported the event.
