Record-Breaking Lunch Celebrates 10 Years of Partnership in Wales

The Concrete Society Wales Region 10th Anniversary Autumn Lunch, held in collaboration with Wooden Spoon Wales, proved to be an outstanding success, exceeding all expectations and delivering a memorable day of entertainment, generosity, and fundraising.

On 7 November, an impressive 500 guests gathered at the iconic Glamorgan Cricket Ground for a truly special occasion. Attendees were superbly entertained by England Rugby World Cup winners Lawrence Dallaglio and Neil Back, whose insights and stories delighted the audience throughout the afternoon. The event was expertly compered by Sean Holley, who once again brought energy, humour, and momentum to the proceedings.

Outstanding Fundraising and Support

Thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of those in attendance, significant funds were raised through a lively raffle, Heads ‘n’ Tails, and a highly competitive auction. Standout auction items included a British & Irish Lions shirt signed by multiple Lions players, a signed caricature of the guest speakers by renowned local artist Richard Bradbeer, and the now legendary sporting and golf bundles.

The item that captured the most attention on the day, however, was a unique opportunity to witness the demolition of the cooling towers at Aberthaw Power Station, generously donated by former Wales captain Paul Thorburn.

The event was proudly sponsored by Heidelberg Materials, with additional support from long-standing friends of Wooden Spoon, The Events Room, who once again delivered an excellent silent auction.

A Powerful Reminder of the Cause

A particularly moving moment came when Wooden Spoon Wales committee member Ant Evans addressed the room. His passionate and emotional speech reminded guests why the charity’s work is so vital, reinforcing the real impact that fundraising events like this have on the lives of children and young people across Wales.

A Record-Breaking Result

The lunch raised an incredible £44,419, making it a record-breaking event. This remarkable total brings the amount raised in collaboration with The Concrete Society Wales Region over the past 10 years to more than £312,000—a truly outstanding achievement.

Wooden Spoon Wales extends its sincere thanks to The Concrete Society Wales Region, sponsors, supporters, speakers, and everyone who contributed to making this milestone event such a phenomenal success. Together, we continue to make a lasting difference to children and young people across Wales.
