17th Annual Hertfordshire Golf Day Raises £7,000 for Local Children & Young People

The Hertfordshire Region recently held their 17th annual Golf Day at the beautiful parkland Knebworth Golf Club, where 68 golfers enjoyed a day of friendly competition under bright October skies. The course looked stunning in its autumn colours, setting the perfect backdrop for a fantastic day of sport, fun and fundraising.

Seventeen teams took part in the stableford competition, with golfers also taking on the entertaining challenge set by Golf Trick Shot Pro Ade Wheatcroft from ACE Golf. After some impressive play — and a few well-used Mulligans — the winning team of Simon Law, David & Ian Reynolds and Gary Ellis were delighted to receive their prizes from Wooden Spoon Hertfordshire’s new President, Sam Spink (England U18 & U20, Wasps, Western Force and Saracens).

As the sun set, guests gathered in the club conservatory for a three-course dinner with wine, followed by a lively evening of fundraising. A sports-themed heads and tails, raffle and auction got the generosity flowing, raising nearly £7,000 to support children in Hertfordshire living with disabilities and disadvantages.

Adding a unique touch to the celebrations, Karenza Lily-May (accordion and guitar) and Kevin Brinn (Irish bouzouki) — performing as Kevin & Karenza — entertained the crowd with a mix of folk and shanty music, ending the night with five well-known singalong favourites, complete with song sheets.

The combination of a beautiful course, superb hospitality, and a joyful atmosphere made this a truly memorable event. As always, a huge thanks goes to Hertfordshire Chair, John Batters, who has organised this brilliant day for an incredible 17 years and continues to pour his energy into making it a highlight of the regional calendar.

All funds raised will remain in Hertfordshire, supporting local projects that aim to change children’s lives for the better.
