Mid-Kent ‘Club Together’ Cycle Challenge raises over £20,000
WOODEN Spoon Kent’s Mid-Kent ‘Club Together’ Cycle Challenge took place on Sunday 4 July 2021.
There was fantastic support from Kent’s rugby clubs with 19 different clubs taking part.
The main 155k route went through Dartford Valley, Gravesend, Cliffe Crusaders, Medway, Gillingham Anchorians, Sheppey, Sittingbourne, Lordswood, Aylesford Bulls, Vigo &Swanley. There were two 90k routed Mid-Kent East & Mid-Kent West along with two 55k routes too. The other clubs taking part were Charlton Park. Beckenham, Sevenoaks, Blackheath, Sidcup, Bromley, Tonbridge Juddians & Westcombe Park.
180 riders registered for the event, our largest turnout to date, however, due to some very nasty wet weather on the day, there were some late withdrawals, so probably around 165 took to the road.
On our 2018 and 2019 West Kent rides we shared sponsorship raised by cyclists with 50% going to the clubs involved and 50% going to Wooden Spoon Kent. All Gift Aid also went to Wooden Spoon Kent. This year, because of Covid-19, we changed the split to 75% clubs and 25% Wooden Spoon as away to thank Kent rugby clubs for all the fantastic support they have given us over the years.
The final outcome has worked out extremely well with £18,000.00 raised for the clubs involved and just over £20,000.00 for Wooden Spoon Kent which will be spent on projects in the county.
Finally, a very big thank you to everyone who took part, hopefully we will see you all again next year when the plan is to move the ride to East Kent.
