El Snowsill Recaps on Wooden Spoon Women’s Triumph in Kinsale!

THE Women’s Wooden Spoon 7s team came home with a fantastic win out at the Heineken Kinsale 7s tournament at the end of April! Beating Railway in the finals saw the girls named Champions and bring home the Trophy.

El Snowsill, (Captain) recaps on her take of their 1st 7s tournament of the season!

“It was a privilege to be welcomed into the Wooden Spoon family, and the weekend did not disappoint. Looking fresh in new kit from sponsors O’Neills, we headed into Day 1 as a group of individuals, some players meeting for the first time that morning!”

“Under the experienced guidance of our head coach Amy Turner, we gelled very quickly and showed glimpses of our potential, finishing with two wins out of two on Day One. We then went back to the hotel to recover, where we had a joint team meal with the boys, and enjoyed some pretty sassy table tennis matches!”

“Day Two presented a new challenge, with a long wait before the final against Railway. The first half didn’t quite go to plan, with half-time seeing us losing by a try. Things looked even worse after an early try to Railway in the second half, but the girls grouped together as a team and produced some brilliant sevens to come from behind and win by two tries.”

“Huge credit needs to go to our coach Amy Turner, who facilitated the comeback with well-timed substitutions and real-time feedback. The win capped off a great weekend with a brilliant bunch of girls.”

The Women’s next tournament is on the 3rd June at Richmond’s Summer Social! Come down and support them, and hopefully see them bring home another trophy!
