Partner Club Huddersfield RUFC Win National League 3 Northern Division
2016/17 has been a remarkable, record breaking season for Huddersfield RUFC. Having lost their place in National 2 North the previous season they have bounced back in amazing style by taking the National 3 North title for the second time.
Winning all 26 of their games, scoring 1180 points in the process and only conceding 263 it has proved to be the most successful year in the club’s 108 year history. Fly half Chris Bell scored a club record 409 points himself with his superb goal kicking and try scoring!
The season ended in dramatic style with a close shave 37-35 win over near neighbours Sandal who turned up determined to spoil the party. However the champions showed their class and prevailed. It was the first time that the team had conceded more than 16 points in a game! Former Huddersfield captain and Scottish National coach Vern Cotter presented medals to the team after the match.
The day after the league trophy was presented the club’s Senior Academy played in the Yorkshire Colts Cup final. Sadly they lost to Wharfedale but it was a great performance from the team. Also on the very same day Huddersfield’s young flanker Lewis Bradley was having trials for the North of England U20’s. He has been one of many outstanding contributors to the team’s success. The club was being profiled on film by ‘Rugby Nats’ in March and photos, news items and video clips of the club’s achievements can be found on both the Rugby Nats and Huddersfield’s excellent web sites.
