Legacy for a Legend Martin ‘Speedy’ Roberts…

Martin ‘Speedy’ Roberts daughter is raising money for Wooden Spoon by running in this year’s London Marathon with her friend Jamie Gamble on 23rd April, in memory of her late Father who died suddenly on 10th April last year at the age of just 48!

The former Gloucester Rugby Star appeared in a staggering 121 games for his club, including the must needed 17-10 win over Saracens in the 1996 league decider of who would be relegated. Starting his career aged 17, just down the road from Gloucester at Cheltenham RFC, he was soon picked up by the Championship club back in his home town Gloucester where he played there for a staggering 9 Years.

‘Speedys’ best form was seen in the 1992-93 Season where Gloucester toured around Ireland and won the still ongoing Kinsale Sevens Tournament… Where we will see our very on Wooden Spoon Marauders Men’s and Women’s Teams compete there this April for the Trophy.  Scoring 157 points and 7 tries that season; he was showing off why he was nicknamed ‘speedy’.

So let’s get behind his daughter Becky and her friend Jamie, and help support their fundraising page in honor of a true sportsman and legend of rugby Martin ‘Speedy’ Roberts… #wearerugby
