Club Together… Rugby Riding for Wooden Spoon
Club Together 2017 aims to raise £50,000 for local charities…
Cycling enthusiasts and rugby fans are joining forces to raise money for local charities by cycling over 320 miles and visiting every rugby club in Norfolk along the way. The three-day event will see half the money raised going to children’s rugby charity Wooden Spoon, the rest will go to charities chosen by the rugby clubs. All of the money will go to good causes in the county.
The ‘Club Together 2017’ event has three core aims, to raise a life changing amount of money for community based charities in the region, create friendship and foster camaraderie across the Norfolk rugby community and promote healthy lifestyles.
Over 50 riders have already signed up for the event, which will be held in September, and have pledged to raise at least £250. All expenses incurred by the riders will be met by them so every penny raised will reach those who need it the most – the local charities. Corporate sponsorship will also help swell the coffers. So far a number of sponsors have signed up including BBT Willis Owen, HLC Limited, Adrian Flux Insurance Services and Norwich Accountancy Services.
There is an offical launch of the ride on Thursday March 2 at the Dog House, on St George’s Street in Norwich at 6.30 for 7pm. Anyone interested in taking part, or sponsoring the cycle ride, is welcome or they can find more information at www.clubtogethernorfolk.co.uk
“Last year we cycled from London to Paris, one of the beneficiaries was Nelson’s Journey and they will be at the launch event to explain how the money was spent. Wooden Spoon is the anchor charity and likely to receive around 50 per cent of the funds for projects here in Norfolk and the rest will be divided between half a dozen local community charities,” said organiser Mark Loveday of Loveday & Partners.
