Sense Cymru open new Sensory Room
WalesRainforest Sensory Room at Sense Cymru, a Sensory Space project featuring a rainforest themed Sensory Room, in Wales, has been awarded a grant of £7,500 by Wooden Spoon Wales. This project, aimed at supporting individuals with deafblindness and complex disabilities through immersive sensory experiences, is set to make a meaningful difference within the local community.
Sense Cymru, the location of the Rainforest Sensory Room, helps people with deafblindness or complex disabilities to communicate, experience the world, and fulfil their potential.
This new Sensory Space, opened by George Nott, provides a calming, nature-inspired environment designed to support sensory stimulation, relaxation, and engagement for individuals with multiple and complex needs.
“The sensory room is important because it gives people time to gather their thoughts, relax and reduce their stimulation a little bit, and that then allows them in the next hour to go and do something else.” ~ George Nott
The sensory room was opened ahead of a sponsored 5K walk held on Wednesday, 25th June, from Cardiff Bay, to mark Deafblind Awareness Week and celebrate the 70th anniversary of Sense Cymru.
The Sensory Room was generously funded by a grant from Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby. Wooden Spoon supports Sense Cymru’s commitment to creating inclusive environments that foster wellbeing, connection, and growth.
