Richard Parks Opens New Cycling Facility
WalesFormer Wales Rugby International, endurance athlete, explorer, and TV presenter Richard Parks brought great excitement to Ty Gwyn Education Centre on Friday 12th. Parks was on hand to officially open the new £10,000 Lon Las cycling facility, generously funded by Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby.
The atmosphere was electric as pupils and teachers gathered to join Richard, along with members of Wooden Spoon, to witness the children eagerly using the new facilities. The Lon Las cycling project features state-of-the-art storage, maintenance facilities, and proficiency training programs, all designed to enhance the cycling experience for the students.
The initiative was spearheaded by Sports and Science teacher Damien Murphy, whose vision will ensure that underprivileged children at Ty Gwyn have the chance to learn new skills and stay active for years to come.
This project underscores Wooden Spoon’s commitment to transforming lives through the power of sport and community support. The charity’s funding has made it possible for the children at Ty Gwyn to enjoy cycling in a safe and structured environment, fostering both physical fitness and personal development.
The event was a testament to the positive impact that community and charitable efforts can have on the lives of young people. As the children pedaled away on their new bikes, the sense of joy and accomplishment was palpable, marking the beginning of a new chapter of opportunities and growth at Ty Gwyn Education Centre.
