Redlands Primary School Sensory Garden
ChilternsThe Redlands Primary School Sensory Garden, a sensory garden project opened in Reading with a funding boost of over £7,100 raised through community efforts. This project, aimed at creating an inclusive, engaging space for sensory exploration and outdoor learning, is set to have a significant impact on the local community.
The Redlands Sensory Garden was created to transform the once grey and sparse tarmac playground at Redlands Primary School into a vibrant, green space. Headteacher Shabana Aslam expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for the transformation, noting how it has greatly benefited students. “The fabulous community of hard-working volunteers turned our playground into an amazing space that is inviting, green, and vibrant. The children were particularly impressed on their return to school, excited to explore the beautiful changes to their environment.”
This new sensory garden, provides a calming and nature-filled environment designed to help students connect, learn, and thrive in a supportive space. By bringing more wildlife to the area and fostering opportunities for outdoor learning, the garden promotes both wellbeing and environmental engagement.
The project was generously supported by grants from organisations such as the Berkshire Community Foundation, Thames Water, The Friends of the University of Reading, and Trees for Reading. These contributions, along with over £7,100 raised by The Redlands Rockets through a GoFundMe campaign and their participation in the Reading Half Marathon, were instrumental in bringing this vision to life.
