New Pirate Ship at Park Community Academy

Lancashire

Students at Park Community Academy in Blackpool have set sail on an exciting new adventure, thanks to a generous £25,000 grant from Wooden Spoon Lancashire. The grant funded a brand-new pirate ship play structure, which officially opened with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Wooden Spoon Lancashire’s Honorary President, Sir Bill Beaumont GBE, accompanied by a lively performance from the school’s brass band.

The new pirate ship replaces an older, worn-out structure that had to be removed for a school expansion project. Now standing proudly on the school grounds, this engaging play area will serve Park Community Academy’s 330 pupils, all of whom have a wide range of learning needs.

Park Community Academy’s Deputy Head Teacher, Hayley Gardiner, expressed her gratitude for the charity’s support, highlighting the profound impact this addition will have on the students: “This new pirate ship will provide our pupils with a great deal of enjoyment and help them to develop their gross motor skills, creative play, and levels of health and fitness.”

Sir Bill Beaumont even joined in the fun, sliding down the new pirate ship’s slide himself and sharing in the students’ excitement.
