LANE END SCHOOL READING CAFE PROJECT OPENED
ChilternsWOODEN Spoon Chilterns are pleased to have provided a grant of £20,000 towards the cost of creating a Reading Cafe for Lane End Primary School.
Lane End Primary School is a smaller than average village school set in spacious grounds. They provide a caring environment for children from 2-11 years and hold learning in the highest regard. Working closely with the community of Lane End and beyond, they aim to ensure each and every child at the school is able to fulfil their potential both academically and socially. The school is in an area of deprivation and the school has 26% of children on Free School Meals.
Within the existing library space, new books, furniture and fittings have been installed to encourage reading, learning and electronic information access.
The Learning Café will also be used to encourage parents/carers to come in and find out about the latest teaching methods the school uses to best support their children’s learning at home. The school currently runs parents workshops on the first Thursday of each month but had struggled to find appropriate space to hold these.
The Family Resilience Service is also based at the school and the school works closely with them to be able to run courses for parents such as literacy and maths skills, as well as parenting courses in this new space.
The school’s inspirational headmistress – Debbie Williams, and the school’s educational psychologist Dr Warren, have turned this school around from an Ofsted rating of “Poor” to “Good”.
The opening of the facility was performed by Gwyn Stone the current president of Bucks RFU and Marlow Rugby Club – accompanied by Richard Thomas the incoming president of Bucks RFU.
