Garden and Forest School Redevelopment at Longcause Community Special School

Longcause Community Special School have redeveloped their Garden and Forest school in Plymouth funded by a grant of £5,000 from Wooden Spoon Devon. This project, aimed at enhancing outdoor learning and play opportunities for children with autism, is set to have a significant impact on the local community.

Longcause Community Special School is dedicated to being a leading ambassador and educator for children with autism in the South West. Catering for children aged 4-16, the school fosters an autism-friendly environment where pupils support one another, and staff and families work closely together to ensure the best outcomes for their children.

This new Playgrounds & Outdoor Activities project, which opened on 19th February 2025 in Plymouth, provides a revitalised outdoor space designed to help children engage in sensory learning, develop social skills, and enjoy the benefits of nature in a structured and supportive setting.

This garden redevelopment was generously funded by a Wooden Spoon Charity grant. Wooden Spoon supports Longcause Community Special School’s dedication to creating inclusive and stimulating outdoor environments that foster wellbeing and growth.
