Ellen Tinkham School Early Years Playground
DevonThe Ellen Tinkham School Early Years Playground Project, an outdoor space has received a funding boost of £41,000. This project, aimed at creating an inclusive, engaging and safe space for children with learning difficulties and in need of special educational needs.
Ellen Tinkham School is dedicated to creating and delivering high-quality, personalised learning opportunities for each individual. The school operates across two sites in Exeter: the Hollow Lane site in Pinhoe for Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2 pupils, and the Wayside Crescent site in Whipton Barton for Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Sixth Form students. Sixth Form students return to the Hollow Lane site, where they can remain in Post 16 education until the age of 19. Katy Bradley serves as the Head of School at Hollow Lane, while Monika Davis is the Head of College at Wayside Crescent.
Guided by values such as inclusivity, giving everyone a voice, and placing children at the heart of everything, Ellen Tinkham School adopts a holistic approach to education. The school ensures each student’s needs are met, providing a stimulating and positive environment tailored to their unique requirements. “Everyone will be the best that they can be” is a core principle of the school’s ethos.
This new playground project, which launched in late 2024, focuses on transforming the large playground into a safe and stimulating space equipped to meet the diverse needs of the school’s amazing pupils. By creating a responsive and engaging outdoor area, the project supports both wellbeing and educational outcomes.
The project was generously supported by Wooden Spoon Charity, which provided £41,000 in funding.
