Chattersense Equipment Trial in Glasgow

Glasgow

Chattersense Equipment Trial, a project designed to loan out specialist equipment to families with children who have sensory needs, has opened in Glasgow with a grant of £10,000.

Chattersense
At Chattersense, they are passionate about creating opportunities for every child to thrive through the power of play and the transformative benefits of Occupational Therapy. As a charity, their mission is to fill the gaps where statutory and third-sector organisations may not fully reach, ensuring every child has access to a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

This new specialist equipment project, which opened on 19th April 2024, provides sensory equipment designed to help families support children with sensory processing challenges. By offering access to these resources, Chattersense aims to provide therapeutic support and developmental opportunities for children in need.

Sharon Craighead, founder of Chattersense, tells us how play helps the children:

“The climbing frame is vital, it is not just play equipment, but a therapeutic tool. Many of our children are sensory seekers who need opportunities to climb, balance and move to regulate their bodies and emotions. Others have motor difficulties and the climbing frame gives them a safe way to practise and succeed.

For children who are nonverbal, climbing can also be a shared language. It allows them to connect with peers through movement and play, in ways that are not dependent on spoken words. The frame provides structure, predictability, and challenge; all things that help our children to build confidence and resilience.

The difference has been life-changing for our families. The climbing frame at Chattersense gives them a space where they can explore freely, safely and without fear of being misunderstood. Best of all, the young people don’t realise they are in therapy – to them, they are simply having fun.”

This specialist equipment project was generously funded by a Wooden Spoon Charity grant. Wooden Spoon supports Chattersense’s dedication to creating inclusive and supportive environments that foster wellbeing and growth.
