BEN RANSOM OPENS NEW WOODEN SPOON SENSORY ROOM AT TONWELL ST MARY’S PRIMARY SCHOOL
HertfordshireTonwell St Mary’s, a small school on the outskirts of Hertford and Ware have welcomed some distinguished visitors to open a new sensory room
Tonwell St Mary’s were delighted to receive a grant of £11,000 from Wooden Spoon Hertfordshire, which is a tremendous boost for any school, especially a small school like Tonwell. Executive Headteacher Sarah Bridgeman stated,
“We were delighted with Wooden Spoon’s generous donation. All of our children will benefit from the amazing resources that we have managed to purchase with the grant money.”
There was a short ceremony at the school to officially open the school’s sensory room, attended by Wooden Spoons’ Honorary President, Ben Ransom and Hertfordshire Chairman, John Batters; also Ken Crofton, County Councillor for Hertford Rural Division. Other representatives from Wooden Spoon also attended, plus school governors and Tonwell’s local vicar, Robert Thompson from Holy Trinity church, Bengeo. The dignitaries were also delighted to meet some of the children that are currently benefiting from the amazing resources, one of the children said they were “awesome”.
The Chair of Governors, Kathy Dunnett stated that,
“It is fantastic that now the school has resources that support not only special needs children, but also many others with behaviour and mental health issues. Our sensory room has a very calming effect and because most of the resources are portable, they can be moved from class to class or even to our federation school.”
