Solent Sharks

Team Solent Wheelchair Rugby is an exciting new wheelchair rugby club in the South bringing the Paralympic legacy to life at Southampton Solent University.

The mission of the club is to engage and offer sporting opportunities to the disabled community across the south coast. The team welcomes players from a wide range of sporting backgrounds, including elite athletes and beginners.

Whilst providing opportunities for players, the club also seeks to engage Southampton Solent University students by providing them with a unique opportunity to interact with a disability sports team.

Reflecting the club’s community roots, Team Solent Sharks regularly participate in community sports events in conjunction with local groups to promote disability sport and wheelchair rugby within Southampton and its surrounding areas.

In September 2013, Team Solent Wheelchair Rugby Club welcomed London 2012 Paralympian and current international athlete Myles Pearson. Myles who has started a four year course at Southampton Solent University has also been accepted into the university’s High Performance Academy. The combination of Myles Pearson and Aaron Philips talents and experience with the number of players in the overall merited the entry of two teams in the 2013/14 GBWR Division 2 Super Series events.
