Wooden Spoon Wales Annual Golf Day Raises £2,700 at Whitchurch Golf Club
Wooden Spoon Wales welcomed supporters and local businesses to its annual Golf Day at the historic Whitchurch Golf Club in Cardiff on Thursday 10 July 2025. With near-perfect weather and a full lineup of course activities, 15 enthusiastic teams teed off in support of the children’s charity of rugby.
A Star-Studded Guest List
This year’s event was joined by notable rugby figures including:
- Dafyd James – former Wales Rugby Union and British & Irish Lions player
- Stuart Davies – former Wales international and Wooden Spoon ambassador
End-of-day prizes were presented by Wooden Spoon Wales Chairman Huw Thomas and committee member Clive Thomas, adding an extra touch of recognition to the proceedings.
A Fantastic Day of Golf and Giving
Players enjoyed a complete hospitality package featuring:
- Breakfast rolls and coffee
- Complimentary water and snacks throughout the course

With a shotgun start, teams navigated the beautiful and challenging landscape of Whitchurch Golf Club—a course founded in 1914 and known for its testing par 3s and 4s, sweeping views over Cardiff, and the scenic backdrop of the iconic Castell Coch.
Fun Challenges Across the Course
In addition to traditional competition favourites such as:
- Nearest the pin
- Straightest drive
- The yellow ball challenge
…players also took on more surprising challenges, including putting with a bendy putter and attempting to chip balls into a floating paddling pool! These light-hearted additions brought plenty of smiles, laughter, and memorable moments throughout the day.
