Leicestershire and Rutland Celebrate 10th Annual Oktoberfest with a Bang!

Leicester Racecourse, Friday, October 4th, 2024 – The Leicestershire and Rutland community came together for an unforgettable Oktoberfest celebration, marking the 10th annual event with a vibrant lunch at the Nelson Suite in Leicester Racecourse. A sellout crowd of 220 guests enjoyed a day filled with traditional Bavarian festivities, featuring free beer, silly hats, and an array of delicious German cuisine.

The event kicked off with a lively drinks reception, allowing attendees to mingle and network within the local business community. The atmosphere was electric as the crowd was serenaded by a national Oompa band, which set the tone for a day of fun with classic Bavarian drinking songs. Guests dined on locally sourced sausages and sauerkraut, followed by a delightful English cheeseboard, all served amidst charming Bavarian decorations that transformed the venue into a lively German Biergarten.

This year’s Oktoberfest not only showcased the rich culinary traditions of Germany but also included entertainment from a local rock group, providing a perfect blend of lively music for the guests. Adding to the excitement was a mega raffle, featuring over 20 prizes, including an array of German beers, which raised the stakes for attendees looking to win big.

The Nelson Suite, adorned with long bench tables and barrels of beer, created an inviting atmosphere for guests to relax and enjoy the festivities. The venue, known for its elegance and charm, provided the perfect backdrop for this well-established annual event.

What made this year’s Oktoberfest particularly special was its success in fundraising, with over £10,000 raised, surpassing previous records. This achievement was made possible through the generous support of local sponsors who contributed to the cost of entertainment, the welcome drinks reception, and even the signature silly hats worn by many guests.

The event concluded another successful year of fundraising for the Leicestershire and Rutland committee, which is now on track to raise over £40,000 thanks to a series of successful events and generous donations from the local community.
