Edinburgh region celebrates it’s 30th annual dinner in style!
Held against the picturesque backdrop of the Prestonfield Hotel on the outskirts of the city, the Wooden Spoon Edinburgh Regional Dinner is celebrated as one of Wooden Spoon’s premier events on the annual calendar.
Over 400 guests, including regular Wooden Spoon members, supporters, and various corporate groups, including former Scotland internationals, gathered for an unforgettable experience.
The festivities commenced with a warm welcome and arrival drink in the stunning Prestonfield House. Guests then strolled through a tree-lined pathway to an impressive function room where they were treated to an excellent 3 course dinner.
The whole event was extremely well thought our and presented, with former Scotland legend Andy Nicol presiding as ‘MC’. He brilliantly connected the different speakers which ranged from a welcome and introduction to the evening and the work of the charity by current WS Edinburgh Chairman, John Godfrey to an inspirational speech from one of the benefitting projects, Eat-Sleep-Ride. The CEO Danielle spoke passionately about their programme and the impact they’ve seen from receiving WS funds. A link to their organisation is below.
After the food was served, then came the headline speakers which started with former England & Bath player David Trick who gave the audience some great insights to his journey and career as a rugby player, and how he is connected to the charity. This was then followed by a brilliantly led ‘Q&A’ with Rugby legend Martin Johnson. This was a fantastic exploration of areas such as ‘England V Scotland battles’, ‘Living with the Lions stories’ as well as his journey as a captain of both England & the Lions.
Finally and to finish, Andy Nicol led a brilliant auction & raffle which guests really dug deep for, which alongside ticket sales, sponsors and a silent auction meant the final profit tally was just shy of £70K. This is, by any rate, an incredible amount of money to raise and the efforts of John and his committee team must be congratulated.
An additional 38 members were recruited on the night ensuring that the region can continue to develop and engage with a wide audience and hopefully will enjoy continued success at future fundraising events.
