Cricket at the Castle

On Wednesday 14th June the sun shone brightly on an excellent event collaboratively delivered by Wooden Spoon Northumberland and Lord’s Taverners.

The event was a cricket match and the venue was Bamburgh Cricket Club which is overlooked by the stunning site of Bamburgh Castle. There is quite possibly no better or more picturesque cricket grounds in the UK, and this certainly was a big attraction for the 260 odd guests who joined the day for a full luncheon and afternoon of socialising & watching cricket.

Wooden Spoon Northumberland had pulled together their ‘All Star’ team captained by WS ambassador Tim Stimpson and they would play against a Lord Taverners XI captained by former England Fly Half and Legend Rob Andrew.

The guests were entertained by a close match on the main pitch alongside excellent food and wine supplied by sponsors. As is the way for all fund-raising events the regional committee and Lord’s Taverners had organised an excellent raffle and a 16 lot auction which helped on the day to raise £20K for each charity which is fantastic.

A huge thanks and congratulations to Wooden Spoon Northumberland Chairman Ian and his hard working committee, in particular Dennis and Iain for all their efforts in the run up to the event and on the day, without them the event couldn’t have run and of course our thanks to our charity partners for this event, staff from Lord Taverners.
