Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire lunch a resounding success

The Annual Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire lunch hosted by the Bedford Athletic RUFC took place on Saturday 10th December 2022 ahead of the Regional 1 South East Fixture against Colchester RFC.

The lunch was well supported with over 72 attending ,all enjoying excellent food including roast turkey with all the Christmas trimmings and Christmas pudding followed by cheese and biscuits.

Budge Rogers,Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire honorary president (former England captain, British and Irish Lion, President of RFU and Chairman of Selectors and first person to be honoured by the Queen for services to rugby) attended as well and kindly made a speech.

This is the fifth annual lunch hosted by the Bedford Athletic RUFC and each season a game is chosen by them to host a lunch ahead of a match for the benefit of Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire.

The event was full of laughter as always is the case with Wooden Spoon fundraisers and there is already talk of next seasons lunch.

Oliver Richbell, Chair of Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire, said:

“Another fabulous lunch hosted by Bedford Athletic RUFC. Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire are so grateful of the huge support we always receive from everyone to the catering team, the Club President and committee members and of course to all those that attended.

With partnerships and long-lasting relationships like the one between Bedford Athletic RUFC and Wooden Spoon Bedfordshire we are together able to positively transform the lives of children with disabilities and facing disadvantage through the power, community focus and ethos of rugby.”
