Wooden Spoon Chilterns 2022 Update

Wooden Spoon Chilterns is one of the oldest Wooden Spoon regions having been founded in the 1980’s. Since it’s forming, it has raised and granted over £2 million to more than 40 life-changing projects in the local community.

In 2021, the region continued to provide funding to a range of projects to support local vulnerable children and young people, as well as hosting lots of exciting events and having dedicated fundraisers to help raise vital funds.

Here’s a round-up of all the recent project, fundraising, and event news in Chilterns!

Berkshire Banshees Wheelchair Rugby Club
Through the fantastic fundraising and support in the region, Wooden Spoon Chilterns were able to donate £3,450 to fund a rugby wheelchair for Berkshire Banshees Wheelchair Rugby CIC. The new wheelchair allowed the club to offer further sporting opportunities to participants.

FUNDRAISING

Dulux London Revolution

In September 2021, three fundraisers, Dale, Al and Mark, took part in the Dulux London Revolution to raise life-changing funds for Wooden Spoon Chilterns.

Dale and Al completed the 156-mile ride over two days whilst Mark took on the ‘Ultra’ challenge’ and completed the course in an impressive 12 hours!

A huge congratulations and thank you to all of our fundraisers for completing the challenge and raising vital funds to support vulnerable children and young people in the Chilterns region.

Take part in the Sidley London Revolution this year.

Ergo Half Marathon

A huge well done to Richard Higgs who completed a half marathon on a rowing machine… and all before he started work! Through his fundraising challenge, Richard has raised over £450 for Wooden Spoon Chilterns which will make a real difference to local vulnerable children.

Thank you Richard – what a tremendous achievement!

EVENTS

The Christmas Carol cruise

After a two year absence, the Wooden Spoon Chilterns Annual Carol Cruise sailed again on 12 December last year.

With numbers restricted to 50 and one or two windows open, we had a great time with vocal entertainment from Clem (CJ) and the traditional Carol singing on the top deck.

The new caterers provided an excellent three course meal and we look forward to having a full boat (or two!) on the 11 December this year!

Race night

A race night was held in June last year at Padworth Village Hall near Reading and a great night was had by all with over £1100 raised for Wooden Spoon. There will definitely be another one this year and we would like to hold further race nights in some of the rugby clubs in the Chilterns region.

Golf Challenge

The Wooden Spoon National Rugby Clubs Golf Challenge Final was held at at Henley Golf Club in September 2021. Rugby clubs came together on the golf course to enjoy a great day of raising vital funds for vulnerable children and young people.

Congratulations to the winners, Dartford Valley Rugby Club!

Whiteleaf Golf Day

Last September saw the delayed 18th Wooden Spoon Chilterns Golf Day take place at Whiteleaf Golf Club. Sixteen teams battled for the team prizes, but most importantly the day raised almost £8,700 for Wooden Spoon Chilterns.
