Club Together riders reach six-figure sum
CYCLISTS taking on a 320-mile, three-day ride around Norfolk have raised more than £100,000 for Wooden Spoon and other good causes – before their journey even gets underway.
Participants in Wooden Spoon Eastern Counties’ Club Together event, many of them players and officials from rugby clubs across Norfolk, will be cycling between the county’s 11 rugby clubs from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th September, but their fundraising efforts topped the incredible six-figure milestone with a day to spare before they saddle up for the two-wheeled challenge.
As many as 100 riders will be setting off from Norwich Union RFC to take on the daunting route, which concludes at Norwich RFC on Sunday.
Speaking to Spoonews, Wooden Spoon Eastern Counties chairman Séamus Farrelly said: “Every penny of the money we raise will be spent within the county and that has been a big seller.
“A sense of community is important and aside from making as much money as possible to benefit local causes, that is one of the ride’s main aims.
“We want to build camaraderie between lads who knock nine bells out of each other from one end of a rugby season to another.”
