Rugby clubs in the swing at charity golf day

THE Sussex rugby community swapped tries for tees in June to take part in a charity golf day. Organised by Wooden Spoon Sussex, the 2017 Sussex Rugby Clubs Golf Challenge saw 16 teams representing county clubs head to Mid-Sussex Golf Club on 15th June to do battle over 18 holes in aid of the children’s charity of rugby.

After completing their rounds in glorious sunshine on a course in great condition, East Grinstead RFC emerged as clear winners, with Chichester RFC and Brighton RFC edging out debutants Heathfield & Waldren RFC on countback to claim the minor place positions.

As well as earning glory on the day, the top three teams qualified for a spot in the regional finals which take place at Henley Golf Club in September 2017.

Wooden Spoon Sussex is lucky to enjoy strong support from the local rugby community and the committee extends its thanks to all the golf day’s participants and the many volunteers who gave up their time to support the charity.
