Memorial tournament raises £6,000
ON Sunday 21 May, the 8th Barns Green Tag Rugby Memorial Tournament took place in memory of Simon Viney raising vital funds for Wooden Spoon Sussex.
This year Barns Green also celebrated their promotion to the Sussex 1 league a considerable achievement for a village rugby club.
The Wooden Spoon Sussex organisers said: “It was a great day with superb weather. It was really well attended and included senior and junior male and female members from Barns Green and Horsham RFC as well as local school Christs Hospital. A record sum of over £7,000 was raised for local charities including Wooden Spoon Sussex.
The event has been organised each year in memory of Simon by his parents, Guy and Karen Viney. Thank you to both Guy and Karen and to Barns Green RFC who have donated more than £16,000 to Wooden Spoon Sussex from their Annual Rugby Tag Tournaments.
