Christmas Lunch with Exeter Foundation
WOODEN Spoon Devon and Exeter Foundation (Exeter Chiefs) joined forces to host a Christmas lunch which has been hailed a resounding success with almost £20,000 raised between the two charities. Such a success in fact that a date has been set already to do it all again!
380 people attended the festive lunch at Sandy Park where the guest speaker was world renowned rugby referee Nigel Owens MBE. He entertained and amused the audience with anecdotes and insights from his career officiating over some of the biggest games and names in world rugby. Comperes for the event were Exeter Chiefs Chris Bentley and former Bath and England International David Trick, who added their own humour to the proceedings. Fun and games were played between Spoony and Exeter’s Big Chief mascot with everyone joining in loudly.
Further funds were raised with a raffle and auction, which included one of Nigel Owen’s Rugby World Cup jerseys, signed and framed.
Roger Haywood, Chairman of Wooden Spoon Devon, said “It is such a great total to have raised and we are hugely thankful for everyone’s generosity. The funds raised will enable the Devon Region of Wooden Spoon to continue investing in projects for disadvantaged children throughout the county.”
