Wheelchair Rugby – One Year On

ONE year on from launching our rugby wheelchair campaign – with the aim to fund 19 rugby wheelchairs for rugby wheelchair clubs across the UK and Ireland – we are delighted to announce that we are currently putting our first order of chairs in this month.

Jai Purewal, Director of Rugby & Community Investment at Wooden Spoon said: “Our vision at Wooden Spoon is that every child and young person, no matter what their background has access to the same opportunities – through the power of rugby.”

“This life-changing campaign will provide young people with disabilities better opportunities to play wheelchair rugby and help positively transform their lives into 2017 and beyond.”

Thanks to support from you our supporters, our corporate supporters and our amazing regional committees and their volunteers, the first order is for nine wheelchairs with campaign partner, GBWR and we have a further 14 in the pipeline, meaning we will have finished our campaign by exceeding our target.

In the words of Gemma and her Mum, Sally from Caledonian Crushers in Scotland, wheelchair rugby really changes young people’s lives:
