Partner Club Fylde RFC hold Sportsman’s Dinner

THE inaugural Fylde RFC & Wooden Spoon Sportsman’s Dinner took place on Friday 24th February.

The evening kicked off with drinks at 6pm and then moved on to a great three-course meal. Those in a party mood enjoyed a good amount of laughter along with their “refreshments” and even a free bacon butty later on to fuel up for the late evening session.

Guests were well entertained by England World Cup Finalist, Jeff Probyn, and  1980’s comedian  Johnnie Casson.

Among those present, were the Presidents of Fylde RFC,  Wooden Spoon Lancashire,  as well as Rugby Royalty in the form of Malcolm Phillips and Bill Beaumont CBE.

Malcolm represented England from 1958 to 1964 and was President of the Rugby Football Union in 2004-05, also serving on the International Rugby Board. Bill of course played at Fylde, represented England 34 times and the British & Irish Lions 7 times. He the current Chairman of World Rugby and an Honorary President of Wooden Spoon.

The dinner was hailed a great success and raised over £4800 for Wooden Spoon, supporting disabled and disadvantaged children and young people locally.

The most recent project was a playground at Highfurlong School, enabling both able-bodied  children and those wheelchairs to play together. The wheelchair friendly playground has sensory areas, musical instruments and an adventure area.
