Wyre Forest School Sensory Room Project Receives £10,000 Wooden Spoon Grant
WorcestershireA new Sensory Space project at Wyre Forest School in Worcestershire has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from Wooden Spoon Worcestershire. The project, which will deliver a new sensory room for children and young people with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), is set to make a meaningful impact on the local community by giving children a chance to thrive.
Opened on 1st December 2025, the new sensory room has provided a calm, engaging and supportive environment where pupils can regulate emotions, develop communication skills and build confidence through sensory exploration and therapeutic activities.
About Wyre Forest School
Wyre Forest School is a specialist school in Kidderminster supporting children and young people aged 4 to 19 whose needs cannot be met within mainstream education. Alongside its educational provision, the school also operates Russell House, a 16-bed weekly boarding unit, helping to provide consistent care and support for pupils and families across Worcestershire.
The school is recognised for its bespoke Pathway curriculum and specialist facilities, including soft play areas, sensory rooms, a hydropool, rebound therapy gym and communication support services. Staff work tirelessly to ensure every child can develop academically, socially, emotionally and physically within a safe and nurturing environment.
This new Sensory Space will build on that commitment by creating a dedicated environment designed to support pupils with additional needs through calming sensory experiences and interactive learning opportunities. The project comes at an especially important time, with increasing demand for specialist school places across Worcestershire highlighting the growing need for inclusive educational environments that help children reach their full potential.
Funded through a generous Wooden Spoon Charity grant, the sensory room reflects the charity’s commitment to creating inclusive spaces that foster wellbeing, resilience and growth. The facility will provide children and young people with opportunities to feel safe, supported and empowered while helping them thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
