Wooden Spoon Viking opens at Leicester Sea Cadets
LeicestershireWooden Spoon Viking at Leicester Sea Cadets is a Specialist Equipment & Facilities project providing transport in Leicestershire, and has been awarded a grant of £2,500 from Wooden Spoon Leicestershire. This project, aimed at enhancing mobility and accessibility for young people, is set to have a significant impact on the local community. Wooden Spoon Viking supports the longstanding mission of Leicester Sea Cadets.
The Leicestershire and Rutland committee of Wooden Spoon have made over 12 grants in the past 5 years, often they are for major projects such a sensory rooms or disabled changing room facilities. However, we are always on the lookout for opportunities for smaller projects which make a difference. So when we were approached by the Leicester Sea Cadets to help them bring there instructional motor boat back into commission after along lay up we were delighted to help
The Viking Powerboat is a tender type motorboat and used by the cadets to learn boat handling skills especially for embarking passengers to and from larger naval vessels. The Leicester sea cadets boat was in need of a major overhaul and with the help of a generous grant the newly named “Wooden Spoon Viking” was fully overhauled and back on the water this summer. The cadets who come from mostly the inner city of Leicester have enjoyed learning skills on their refurbished craft. The Sea Cadets provides a vital pathway for disadvantaged young people to join the armed forces or build CVs for University entrance.
At Leicester Sea Cadets, they aim to give young people an experience that will help them grow into the person they want to be, all within a safe and friendly environment.
This new Specialist Equipment & Facilities project provides a practical and supportive setting designed to help young people access opportunities and build confidence through improved transport options.
This project was generously funded by a grant from Wooden Spoon. Wooden Spoon supports Leicester Sea Cadets’s commitment to creating environments that foster wellbeing and personal growth.
