WOODEN SPOON OPENS CAFÉ AT YOUTH CENTRE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE IN BERKSHIRE
ChilternsFollowing 18 months spent converting an old industrial warehouse into a new youth community centre in Newbury, the Waterside Centre, funded and run by the charity Berkshire Youth, opened its doors in January 2022 to support young people facing disadvantage in the Berkshire area.
The centre features the Wooden Spoon Café which was brought to life out by an £85,000 grant from Wooden Spoon Chilterns. The café was recently opened by volunteers from the Wooden Spoon Chilterns committee, and provide a space for attendees at the centre to use and enjoy as a social hub.
Apart from a safe place for young adults to meet up with friends, the Waterside Centre offers a range of activities including a gymnasium, a climbing wall, a dance studio, and a meeting room for social and educational purposes.
The centre is located next to a canal, and a kayaking club has been formed to encourage youngsters to enjoy the fun, and competitiveness that kayaking offers.
