Wooden Spoon legacy garden moves to Broomhill Bank School
Kent (South East)An award-winning sensory garden that wowed judges at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival has now taken pride of place at a school in Tunbridge Wells.
The Wooden Spoon garden was last month named ‘Best Construction for a Global Impact or Get Started Garden’ at the prestigious show.
After being enjoyed by all at Hampton Court, the garden has now been moved to Broomhill Bank School, within their existing forest school, thanks to a £13,000 grant from Wooden Spoon Kent.

“This is a real legacy of a successful project that Wooden Spoon was delighted to support.
“We all know how therapeutic a sensory garden can be and we look forward to seeing the students enjoying the outside space for years to come.”
Steve Ackerley, executive headteacher at the school, said: “The garden will be used to provide timetabled space for sensory activities and to support our students with neurodiverse views of the world.

“A team of students will be responsible for the garden maintenance and it will provide additional opportunities for our students to develop their skills and love for gardening and the outdoors.”
The garden was designed by Toni Bowater and Lucy Welsh with Toni explaining that they felt it was their social responsibility to ensure that the garden had a permanent home.
