WOODEN SPOON FUNDS THERAPY CABIN AT CLEASWELL HILL SCHOOL

Northumberland

Cleaswell Hill, an outstanding day community special school in Northumberland for 231 students with complex learning difficulties and disabilities, received a generous donation from Wooden Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby (registered charity number 326691) towards a specialist therapy cabin.

The outdoor therapy cabin was officially opened by Sarah Hunter CBE and representatives of Wooden Spoon charity, local rugby clubs and Cleaswell Hill School on Friday 15th September 2023.

The repurposed shipping container featuring wood cladding, dual air conditioning and double glazing provides a safe, engaging environment for children aged 3-19 to access individual and small group therapy sessions, including interventions to support the development of communication, life, physical, emotional and play skills.

Mike Jackson, Headteacher stated “the new cabin is a fantastic addition to our therapy provision at Cleaswell Hill. We are extremely grateful for Wooden Spoon’s kind donation of £16,666 towards this project. Their support will enable children with special educational needs and disabilities to access a wide range of therapeutic interventions for many years to come.’

Juliet Ruddick, Lead Therapist stated “it’s fantastic to be able to work with the children in a calm, quiet therapeutic space within which they can concentrate and develop their skills. The therapy cabin, made possible by the substantial support from Wooden Spoon, will have a huge positive impact”.
