Stand Out For Autism Sensory Bus

Chilterns

Stand Out For Autism Sensory Bus, a sensory spaces project has hit the road in Maidenhead with a funding boost of £20,000. This project, aimed at creating an on the move, inclusive, engaging space for sensory exploration and autism support, is set to have a significant impact on the local community.

Stand Out For Autism was born in June 2015 after Holly held an awareness and fundraising event for other autism-friendly organisations in the local area. Earlier that year, in March 2015, Holly organised a family fun day at SportsAble in Maidenhead where over 300 people attended. The event featured information, services, stalls, a sensory room, and entertainment. The success of this event highlighted the need for ongoing events and activities for the autism community in the area. Inspired by this, Holly founded Stand Out For Autism to create and hold activities for families like hers and others in Maidenhead.

This new sensory bus, which launched in November, provides a mobile, calming, and interactive environment designed to support individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. By bringing sensory experiences directly to the community, the bus fosters accessibility, engagement, and understanding.

The project was generously supported by Wooden Spoon Charity through its Chiltern Region.
