HRH, The Princess Royal opens sensory Room at Murrayfield stadium

Edinburgh

Sensory Room Opens at Edinburgh’s Biggest Stadium with £9,000 grant from Wooden Spoon Edinburgh

The Sensory Room, a specialist facility which provides an inclusive and accessible environment, has been officially opened by our patron, HRH, The Princess Royal.  The sensory room creates a quieter, supportive space for rugby fans and concertgoers who may feel overwhelmed by the passionate atmosphere at Scotland’s biggest stadium.

Enhancing Accessibility at Scottish Rugby Events

Scottish Rugby has introduced this dedicated sensory space to ensure that everyone, including individuals with sensory sensitivities, can enjoy events in a comfortable and inclusive environment. By offering a calming retreat within the stadium, the project supports greater accessibility and participation in live sports and entertainment experiences.

This new sensory room, which opened in February 2025, provides a tranquil and engaging environment designed to help visitors relax, connect, and enjoy events in a way that suits their needs.

Gavin Hastings, Honorary President of Wooden Spoon Scotland, said:

“Rugby is a sport built on inclusivity, and this initiative ensures that even more people can experience the magic of a match day in a way that is comfortable for them.”

Funded by Wooden Spoon

This sensory room was generously funded by a Wooden Spoon Charity grant. Wooden Spoon supports Scottish Rugby’s dedication to creating inclusive spaces that promote well-being and accessibility for all.
