LEICESTER OPENS FIRST PART OF LEICESTER CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Leicestershire (Midlands)The First Part of Leicester Children’s Hospital opens in Difficult Covid Times.
THE NHS is slowly returning to normal after a stretching 15 months of the pandemic. For Leicestershire Hospitals Trust, this has meant that they can begin to open their long planned new Children’s Hospital and phase one is the relocation of the specialist Children’s Heart Unit from Glenfield Hospital in Leicester to the Leicester Royal Infirmary Site.
To create a bespoke Children’s Hospital for the East Midlands, a major fundraising effort has been undertaken to refurbish a former wing of the LRI Maternity unit and turn it into a welcoming and safe environment for children.
As part of of this multi-million pound appeal, Wooden Spoon Leicestershire have been able to make a small but meaningful contribution with a grant of just under £25,000 to equip and decorate a “Teenagers Waiting and Break Out Area“ and provide a mobile interactive sensory projector to stimulate recuperating pre-school children.
The opening in these difficult times had to be low key but Wooden Spoon Leicestershire Chairman, Malcolm Foulkes-Arnold and committee members Claudia Hamilton and Simon Whitaker had a tour of the brand new state of the art facilities and see where the Wooden Spoon grant had been spent. A very impressive facility has seen.
The Local Charity Community contributed over £5million to the refurbishment including a major donation from the owners of Leicester City Football club, the Srivaddhanaprabha Family. Wooden Spoon was proud to stand alongside these major charities and provide a small but vital part of the jigsaw.
