Wooden Spoon Chilterns supports inclusive play and learning at Holmer Green First School and Pre-School
ChilternsWooden Spoon Chilterns was delighted to visit Holmer Green First School and Pre-School in High Wycombe to unveil a plaque marking a £10,000 donation towards the replacement and fitting of new specialist flooring for the school’s reception children.
The new flooring has transformed an important play and learning space, making it safer, more inclusive and more accessible for children with SEND needs. Previously, some children with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy, were unable to use the facility because of the risk of falls and other safety concerns.
Each year, around 60 reception children use the space, with approximately 20–30% having SEND considerations. Thanks to the improvements, those children can now enjoy the facility more safely and confidently alongside their classmates. A further 30 children from the First School are also now able to benefit from the upgraded space.
Wooden Spoon Chilterns representatives Chris Henkey, Steve Jones, Colin Higgs and Ian Williamson visited the school to see the new flooring in use and formally unveil the plaque recognising Wooden Spoon’s support.
During the visit, the team met with Headteacher Gillian Jones, Site Manager Darren Jones and Reception Teacher Jackie Trattner, who were delighted to show the new facilities and explain the difference the project is already making for children at the school.
The project is a strong example of Wooden Spoon’s commitment to funding practical, local improvements that help disabled and disadvantaged children and young people have a chance to play, a chance to learn, a chance to thrive and a chance to be safe.
