Alexandra Infant School Outdoor Play Area
Kent (South East)Alexandra Infant School Outdoor Play Area, a pioneering initiative in the field of inclusive education and sensory support*, has launched in Kent with a funding boost of £15,000 from Wooden Spoon Charity. This project, aimed at creating an improved, sensory-focused outdoor play area for students with autism, is set to have a significant impact on the school’s Autistic Specialist Provision (ASP) and overall community.
Alexandra Infant School, a fully inclusive infant school serving children in EYFS, Y1, and Y2, is proud to provide individual support to 18 students in its Autistic Specialist Provision. The outdoor play area project will transform the current small space, which faces challenges from falling leaves and debris, into a safe, clean, and engaging environment designed to meet the high sensory and educational needs of ASP students. This revamped space will also extend learning opportunities in alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and KS1 curriculum, which values outdoor learning as essential to children’s development.
With this funding, Alexandra Infant School plans to create an outdoor area that fosters sensory engagement and offers students access to a range of safe, functional, and educational resources specifically tailored to their needs. Additionally, the improvements will benefit the school’s 27 students on the SEN register, ensuring all students can participate in meaningful and inclusive outdoor learning experiences.
This project is made possible by Wooden Spoon Charity, whose commitment to funding life-changing projects for children and young people across the UK and Ireland has already made a difference in the lives of many.
